on my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport my L rear turn siganl will not flash. First I thought it was a simple bulb replacement (cluster signal was flashing fast) but that wasnt it. Fuses all seem ok. Everything else works. Just not flashing for the turn. HELP!!!
1. The truck uses the common-bulb arrangement (i.e. same lamp is both brake light & turn signal)
2. The lamp comes on properly for brakes
3. All other turn signals flash properly,
then it may well be a faulty turn signal switch. Try "jiggling" the lever up and down, forward and back slightly when in the left turn position to see if you can get any response from the light.

Reason: Typo
Must be the wiring in the steering column because after becoming quite frustrated in not being able to fix the problem as a last resort I moved the column up and down and guess what? It now works!!
I had to put a wire harness for the turn signal switch a few months back for just the same problem. was not to bad to do, and the part was not to expensive from the dealer. The wires had pulled out from the connector that plugs on the turn signal switch. I think that there might be a repair kit for it.
Kinda embarassing, but don't know if 91 has a flasher unit, but sounds symtomatic of faulty unit. If so, suggest check it out, cost about $3 at most auto supply stores.
We have had several people on here have the same problem with the plug. Most of the time all they do is get some wire ties, take the column apart, and wire tie the plugs together so they won't pull apart.
new one from Advanced Auto parts. It worked for a few days and is back to doing what the other part was doing. When I engage the lever to turn right it works but when itry to signal to the left it doesn't always work. It makes a noise that sounds like it is shorting out and doesn't turn the signal light on. Depending on hoe I have the steering wheel turned, sometimes I can hold it to allow for the signal to blink. I replaced the lever, that BTW, also operates the brights and the windshield wipers, for the very same malfunction.
I was not able to pass TX state inspection. Now I,m wondering if it isn't something else that may be causing the lever not to engage.

Loose plug or pinched wire down inside the steering column.
