2003 Mazda 5-speed clutch problem...
Posting this for a friend. He has the truck mentioned above with the 3.0. The other day his clutch pedal went super soft and was have a heck of a time getting the truck into 1st gear. My guess is either the master or slave cylinder have gone or are going out. I had a 93 with an internal slave cylinder, is the 2003 the same way? I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but this should be a fairly easy fix, even if the trans has to come out. I'd like to avoid that if possible though.

Yes it is. First things first. Check the fluid level, if it's low then you have a leak (obviously). The master is fairly easy to diagnose, look at the cylinder inside and out, see if fluid is on the firewall inside and out. If it's the slave then yes the transmission does have to come out. And if you're gonna go in the tranny, might as well do the whole clutch at the same time.
