you should go to auto zone and get a can of RESTORE oil treatment the stuff really works it seals any scratches in the cylinder walls and helps to balance the compression values across the two banks of the engine. hell its worth a try

I'm not sure about that, generaly if it smokes when you start it up you have worn out valve guides or valve seals. thats really not a big deal unless it's real bad and the engine smokes all the time

I haven't tried that ,the restore has small and I mean small metal flakes in it that fills in the scratches the first time the cylinder fires. the heat of combustion kindof welds it in ,at least thats what I have heard

Thanks for the welcomes and the props on the 77 guys , this is the 2nd time I've owned it ........sold it to get 
married 
Then I HAD to get it back,so I've gone nuts with it this time. Now it's fixin to get a little more lift and 2 1/2 ton axles with 4 wheel steering and the whole 9 yards 
I'm looking forward to meeting ya'll and maybe actually being a contributing member to the NC chapter
