I replaced my auto lock hubs with Male Marker SS manual units a few months ago. Everything worked fine and I was very happy with the hubs. Now however, I shift into 4x4 high or low and the light comes on and in low I get low range but the front axle doesn't pull. Have the hubs failed? What could be wrong with the t-case that would allow it to go into low range but not lock the front driveshaft in?
No I replaced the auto hubs with manuals. The worked great for a few months so I don't know if I have a transfer case problem or a hub problem. I don't know what could have happened to the new hubs to cause them to fail.
Seatow ,If you jack up the front end and lock your hubs, then turn your tire you will see the axle turning and if you unlock them manually then move tire back a little bit and then forward the axle should not be moving now and the tire will spin freely. This will tell you if the hubs are working ok or not. If the hubs seem ok then possibly a problem with your transfer case but I am not that familiar with them. I did have one replaced in one of my other trucks and it cost me about 800.00 . Good luck
Thanks Hoss I'll try that tomorrow. I suspect it's the hubs. When I lock them I can't feel the front end loading up in a lock to lock turn. Am I correct to assume that if the hubs are unlocked and the transfer case in 4x4 I shouldn't be able to turn the driveshaft by hand? Assuming the transfer case is locking in properly.
OK, you get low range, so your shift motor must be working.
With hubs unlocked, put it in 4x and try to turn the front driveshaft... if it's locked your t-case should be good.
If your still looking, jack up the front end, lock the hubs and spin the tires w/ it in 4x. It should spin the oposite tire in the oposite direction and the d-line shouldn't move.
If it doesent spin the oposite tire, you've got a stuck or failed hub. Just one will make you loose your 4x. Tear down the hub that doesn't turn the inner axle shaft and clean it, make sure nothing is binding or stuck. I assemble hubs dry, or with some graphite lube. grease and oil just gets them gummed up with gunk and stop working.
Here's some pictures of the inside of my transfer case. I doubt that your's is bad, the chain that drives the front wheels is pretty beefy and you would have definatly heard it break. (if it did)
Well, no doubt about it's a hub. Drivers side hub has the splines on the sliding collar sheared off. So where were you guys saying to get the Warns? Thanks for your help guys.

Doesn't your Mile Marker SS hubs have a warranty? 1 year IIRC.
Actually I traded into the hubs years ago, they were part of a box of stuff that came with probably one item I actually needed. I didn't even know they were for a PSD until my factory hubs went. I emailed Mile Marker and asked them for a model # and low and behold I had had a brand new set on the shelf for years. They lasted roughly 6 months. No better than these were I am not sure I would spend the time to put another set on anyway.
well if you want the ultimate, go with Warn Premiums. i had the leaky ESOF crap, so i plugged off the vacuum lines at the framerail and at the axle, and i have manual-locking, electronically shifting 4x4. still not as good as a stick on the floor, though.
i got mine on ebay a few months back, the part number is 38826, and this is the price i paid, and the same guy i believe.
