Post rough clutch

When I start out in first gear the truck shutters real bad. At first it only happened when the truck was hot, now it happens all the time.
'64 F100 223 c.i. three speed

rough clutch

Sounds like yer gonna have to replace the clutch (pressure plate, disk, throw-out bearing and maybe even the pilot bearing). Approx cost $100. Does it shake your teeth out when you let the clutch out in reverse?

rough clutch

Before spending all that money, try adjusting the clutch first. It isn't hard just crawl under there and give it a try. It should get you a few hundred more miles.

rough clutch

I have not been able to adjust out the "chatter" that Krosati speaks of, but I suppose it is worth a try. Mine has "chattered" for quite some time. When I did my "clutch" job quite a while ago, I only replaced the disk, as I was short on cash and the Pressure plate did not appear to be that bad. It fixed it for a short time, but it went back where it was. I am up for a total clutch job this time. Plus I am gonna have the fly wheel machined as well.

Post rough clutch

I had the same problem.Replaced all parts except trans input shaft bearing,didn't completly fix the problem.Next I replaced the motor and trans mounts,Fixed.

Fred you may need to learn to release the clutch sooner. I think sometimes the chatter is caused by higher revs of the engine while slowly releasing the clutch. Now once it has gotten to the point that you describe replacement is the only answer.

rough clutch

What usually causes this clutch chatter, is overheating the clutch. Most notably on high geared setups which is compounded by tall tires. The short term fix is a complete clutch job including turning the flywheel. However, if you're running alot of heavy traffic (stop and go), of hauling alot of weight often where you need alot of clutch slippage to get rolling, it's only going to be a matter of time before it's back.
