I own a 2002 F150 V8 auto transmission, 3500 miles. I’m experiencing an occasional light sounding ‘click’ when the truck shifts from first to second gear, and occasionally from second to third. This only started about 3 weeks ago.
Unfortunately it doesn’t happen all the time, but it appears to have been happening more often as time goes on.
It happens primarily when the vehicle is hot (after the truck has been run for 15 minutes or so)and when you gradually accelerate (as opposed to a fast acceleration). It has happened once or twice when the vehicle was cold. The click appears to happen primarily when you accelerate from a full stop. I don’t experience any problem when driving even if the vehicle would downshift into first or second and back into third, for example when slowing down. Deceleration doesn’t seem to affect it.
I can’t tell specifically if it’s coming from the transmission, but it is coincidental with the shifting. The dealer can't find the problem.
