plug identification on eec 4 harness
The previous owner modified the engine for performance. The engine itself is stock but he took off the exhaust and intake manifold and put on headers and an offenhauser intake with a holley 4 barrel carb, he also disconnected all emision connections from the eec 4 wire harness. The distributer wires still go into this harness. Right now the harness and all its plugs is just laying in the engine compartment. What I want to do is restore it back to original or as close to original as possible which means going back to original exhaust and intake manifold with a 1 barrel carb and all the emissions. I have collected 90% of the parts needed to restore it. Just need a few more smaller stuff.
Now that you have some back ground info, here is my question:
Can someone, anyone tell me or send me a plug identification diagram for my eec 4 wire harness that tells me what each of the plugs connects to? I have searched the internet for hours and hours for this info but can not find it. I think the reason being is the 85-86 bronco was the transition to fuel infection. All articles on the internet about eec 4 talks about fuel injection. I know my engine was not converted from fi to carb.
This is what I do know about the harness: the end of the harness has a multi wire blug and a single plug, I know these are used for code reading. Thats all that I know for sure.
One thing that puzzles me is, I have the egr,tab and tad solenoids, they are mounted on a single bracket. All the electric connections on the solenoids are the same type of plug. Now on the harness there are 3 plugs that are close together. One is black and one is white, these look like they will fit the solenoids, but the 3rd one is more of a rounded plug and will not fit. The solenoids came out of an 86 f series truck with an inline 6. I was told by several people that I can use components from 83-86 bronco and f series trucks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm anchious to get the bronco legal and on the road here in Pa.
Thanks. Bill

You may also want to look in the back of the correct year Haynes manual. I have one, and the 86-down diagrams are fairly detailed. I believe I remember it having the I6 engine diagram in it.
Question: How did you go about finding the diagram at the autozone site? I looked at all the areas on the site but could not bring up any wiring diagrams.
I'm looking into getting a haynes manual.
Thanks for your help.

Pick your vehicle.
Click on chassis electrical
Look at the bottom of the list and it should say wiring diagrams.
I am not surprised they didn't match, though didn't a few? They are free, and sometimes have little typos here and there. And they tend to group models together to cut down on the number of diagrams.
You can try www.helminc.com to see if they have the "real" factory diagram for your truck. They are not cheap, but are worth it.
The second item i'm not sure of on the diagram is the carb solenoid. Would the carb solenoid be the same as the carb bowl vent solenoid?
I'll go over the diagram some more to see if any of the wire colors match. Will let you know.
Thanks for your help. I sure need it with this project.

If you have any questions about what something looks like, or if it belongs on your vehicle, you can go to www.partsamerica.com. This is autozone's competitor(and a sponsor of this site I think). They are the same as advance auto in my area. What I like about the advance site is most of the time they have pictures of the parts they sell. Some of them are generic pictures, but some are of the actual part.
Lucky for us, Ford didn't change some things, especially wire colors. Certain years they did, and when they did, it was just a few. So with lots of different diagrams, and references from parts places on the web, you may be able to put two and two together and get it working.
Remember, even though your truck is not fuel injected, you still should be able to talk to the computer. If it sees something missing or not right, it will tell you through the scanner.
