1965-1972 disc brake conversion

This is in response to an article posted on how to convert late model brakes to earlier twin I-beam F-100's. The article stated that you must use the proportioning valve. I personally have a 1969 F-100 with 1978 disc brakes using thie original splitter instead of the valve because without it the front brakes would drag. Everything has worked great for years. I also have a friend with a 1972 with the same setup which is also working great. Second, It also stated that you would use the king pin set for the truck that you have which is also wrong. The dia. is larger on the disc brake spindles so you would use the king pin set for the year of the donor truck. I hope that this helps anyone performing this swap. I highly suggest this for older fords. By the way...add late model bolt on power steering. It works wonders on old fords. the only change would be to use a steering column for a power steering box since it is approx. 3" taller and would put your steering in your face....Take Care and good luck.

Kelly, Help me understand. Did you change from the single cylinder to the dual cylinder master cylinder when you upgraded to the power disc brakes?

I always thought that the porportioning valve must be used that goes with the upgraded brakes. But if your truck works fine, maybe it isn't needed.. I heard it is alot easier to swap the entire ibeam with the discs and king pins intact, providing they are not worn out of course..
