My 93 Truck 460 engine shows a code that says "loss of IDM input to EEC or SPOUT circuit grounded". I understand the IDM input is only for diagnostic purposes and its loss is no real problem. However, if I understand correctly, the SPOUT circuit is what gives you timing advance and I presume it being grounded would hurt performance and gas mileage (which is, indeed, low). How do I check for a grounded SPOUT circuit? Anybody have any ideas?
This code turns out to be a bad Distributor most of the time, either the pick-up unit or wobble.
The rest of the time it turns out to be a bad TFI Module.
Of course it could be bad wiring or plugs but have not heard of anybody reporting this condition with this code.
I'm also getting this code. I suspect the TFI module. Coil was replaced after discovering that three of the 4 mount screws had broken due too heat related expansion of the coil itself. Just haven't had time to pull the module and have it tested. (this truck is no longer my daily driver).
Still getting over 17mpg with this issue as well as fouled HEGO, possible bad EVP and suspected clogged cat.
If you gentlemen determine that your problem is with the ignition module, we build our Dyna-Modules with more dwell time built into them. The extra dwell allows your coil to saturate longer, making a hotter spark for you.
Thanks for the ideas. I cleared the codes and drove it several days since, and it hasn't reappeared, and I don't have time to try anything right now anyway. Maybe later.
My 96 460 is doing the same but I put brand new distributor ignition module throttle position sensor speed sensor and still getting that code about spout grounded

I'm encountering a similar set of problems and sensor replacements on my 95 250 5.8L (stick). I did a brain transplant (PCM was a perfect match) and subsequently collected a 212 after installing the new throttle body with TPS. Those parts cleared another set of codes. Now I've got some more work replacing the distributor and circuit checking but there was a problem lurking below (maybe distributor). Not sure if the old PCM had any conflicts as it's being hoarded and not yet tested.
Most engine sensors are old and baked too. Others are $ versions of parts. I'm putting better quality $$$ parts back in.

I will update if my emotions let me.
What are the better quality parts you're putting in?
Don't get emotional over anything that isn't a tragedy, ever.
