What, if any, are the drivetrain differences between 7.3 and v10?

thats correct they did come with the same 4r100, if seen listings of the differences between the 5.4l tranny and the diesel tranny, so im not sure if the v10 uses the 5.4 tranny or the diesel, either way its going to be upgraded.
your right about the contradictions, that seem to be an on going problem with the superduties.
if i were you i woudn't be concerned so much about the u-joints, i would just replace them with stronger ones right from the start.
