I have been looking for a new exhaust system for my truck but im torn between what one i should get i have been looking at Flowmaster 40 series and a Magnaflow system (16612) and i was hoping to get some responses from people who have either one of these exhaust systems on there trucks and im kinda of hoping for less then 500, any help greatly appreciated
I have the Magnaflow 16612 on my 06 Screw. I love it, I have no regrets! I had a Flowmaster on my '02 and in my opinion the Magnaflow is a little better sounding. I don't think you can really go wrong with either system.
I agree that you can't go wrong with either systems. I have always used Flowmasters and I personally love the sound. I think that magnaflow is more like a glass pack, and I believe they actually are packed with the sound dedening material. The packing will actually burn out in a few years and you will have to get a new one. Flowmasters are made of all aluminized steal and I have had 40 series last for more than 15yrs. As for cost it will depend on the type of system, for example duals or single outlets. I have always had muffler shops make the system right there, it is always cheaper than buying a system from the manufacturer. I had a simple siso 50 series and a tip put on for $235.00, and the muffler and tip alone were about $140.00.
I bought a flowmaster 40 series kit from summit racing. It came with everything you need to install it and it included the tips. You can get duals out the back or behind each tire. The kit was $379.00 which was the cheapest anywere i looked. Well good luck with your chose.
Hi everyone. I was hoping to get a little help in figuring out what I need to do.... I pulled the codes on my moms 1997 F150 and came up with these codes:
P0135- O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction-Bank 1 Sensor 1
P0136- O2 sensor circuit malfunction-Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0141- O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction-Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0155- O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction-Bank 2 Sensor 1
P0161- O2 sensor circuit malfunction-Bank 2 Sensor 2
THEN: there were the same exact 5 codes that are listed above but there was a "Pd" after it.
What is "Pd" ?
Are all of the 10 codes basically just telling me to replace oxygen sensors 1 and 2 on banks 1 and 2?
Any ideas would be great. Thanks =)
Don't really know there, my Dad has Magnaflow on his '99 Superduty and he has 210,000 miles on it and it sounds just like it did the day he put it on.
Really, has the exhaust been on for the entire 210,000 miles? Is it gas or diesel? The oldest Flowmaster I have had was on a chevy pickup and it lasted two engines and almost 350,000 miles before I sold it a few years ago.
I have the magnaflow set up you are looking at and absolutely love it. I get a lot of comments on how well it sounds when i get on it and how quite it is at cruising speeds. IMO, I think the Magnaflow is a better setup.
I had the Flowmaster 40 installed on my 05 screw. I was in the same baot but didn't mant to spend a great deal of money. The fully welded package, no clamps, and steal tips for $225.00. Regarding the sound, I've heard magnaflow and it also sounds excellent. My opinion is call around. Usually the small muffler shops are willing to crunch there prices. I would of purchased the magnaflow if the shop only delt with them. Again, they both sound great.
The Flowmaster 40 series generates more in-cab noise than the 50 or 70 series, but is slightly louder in tone. The magnaflow is a straight- through design where the Flowmaster has baffles. Sound is a subjective thing, but I prefer the Magnaflow.
thanks for all the responses, really appreciate it, i called a couple of places around where i live and they said they could do a magnaflow system for about 260ish and the flowmaster around 320 which was a lot less exspensive then i thought it was going to be so probally going to go with magnaflow system only reason being that i could use the extra money saved..thanks again

It's a gasser, he's probably had the Magnaflow for 150,000-160,000 of those miles....something like that. I think the Magnaflow vs. Flowmaster is equal to the Ford vs. Chevy argument, you'll find 5 people that swear by Flowmasters, and you can turn around and find 5 more that swear by Magnaflow. Either one you chose it sure makes a V8 sounds the way it supposed to!
I'm new to this forum, but not Ford trucks, I have 2 04's one f-150 with the 40 series american thunder Si/DO Flowmasters, and an 04 Expy with the Si/SO Magnaflow, Grant it the F150 has the 3V, but I don't think it matters too much, The flows are definilty louder, and sound really good, but the Magnaflow, even though it is alot quieter, it sounds better, more of a low end rumble, it does get pretty loud when you stomp on it, Flows have a cab drone, magnaflow has very little, Like I said trucks have different motors, but I did not notice and power gain with the flowmaster, but did with the magaflows. Just my 2 Cents.
Ive used a flowmaster and 2 magnaflow kits on my 04 5.4 There was a noticeably torque loss when going from stock to flowmaster, and it all came right back with the magnaflow. These trucks like exhaust gas velocity, something you wont find in a flowmaster muffler.
