Hello Matt, I have the magnaflow 16612 installed and love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty (the salt on the roads here in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here Magnaflow 16612, or you can try one of the vendors here, they are always running sales/specials. either way its a great system and very easy to install.
Whoa, resurrect a dead thread lol... Uhh I ended up getting a Magnaflow DI/DO muffler i cant remember the number and then I had a local shop install it. I have been really happy with it.
I have the flowmaster american thunder 40 series. I love it sounds great. I also increased noticable power and gas mileage. The thing with getting a local shop to do it instead of ordering a kit is a kit is going to come with mandrell bent tubing with no crimps in the bends which allows more flow, more power, and a better sound. It will also come with a 3 inch pipe to go from the cat to the muffler and 2.5 inch from the muffler to the tips if you have a local guy do it he will probably leave the small 2.5 before the muffler which will also cut down your flow. IMO flowmasters were made for fords, trucks and mustangs with flows they always sound great.
I have the Magnaflow kit on my 04 with the 5.4 and it sounds great. I agree with a previous post that it has a low rpm growl and also sounds great when you get on it but at cruising speed it is just a pleasant hum not an annoying drone.
It looks like the consensus in the comments at the bottom of this page shows that Magnaflow is the winner vs Flowmaster, but one states that Magnaflows can sound a bit Euro http://www.autoanything.com/articles...-the-best.aspx
I can't speak for a full exhaust system but if anyone is going with just a muffler and tip for some extra sound take the Flowmaster... Mine sounds great and at interstate speeds stays quiet. A friend of mine also did just a muffler and tip setup wt the Magnaflow and it just doesn't have much sound.
I like the Flowmaster but quality and price should be about the same, Flowmasters might cost a little more. Get whichever sound you like better, both are great products
I have a Flowmaster knock-off. If I could do it over I'd do another muffler.
It doesn't drone at hiway speed, but it does at certain RPM and throttle position. The guy said he'd add a resonator for me. I will listen to myself from now on and go magnaflow.
I had a Forza-Flow on a Ram once, it was NO drone, perfect.
I love my Flowmasters, but I don't hate any other brand. Personally, I think that with a skilled mechanic, the right muffler, and the right tips you can get any brand to sound how you want. Going from a 2 to 3 inch tip made a very noticeable deep noise increase for me for example.
