Roush

Do any of you have any experience with Roush F150's? If you do, is the extra money worth the performance gains? A new truck is in my future and the Roush F150's look pretty good to me.

I have an '05 4x4 crew, Nothwest Limited Edition, which the dealer said is actually a Roush package, and that what was on the window sticker as well. It does not have any performance enhancements, only an appearance package, like 20in wheels, grille, and more. It did come with the 5.4 Triton V8, but it doesn't have any special 'Roush Performance' parts on it.

I'd verify with your dealer as to what you're getting with the truck you are looking at.

There is a Stage 1 Roush at a local dealer with a supercharged 5.4. They claim 450 hp. Obviously, there would be a performance difference there. I did not realize that the Roush package was just appearance stuff (unless otherwse specified). That definitely changes things.

Throopdad,

If its a Roush F-150 there will be serial number on the passenger side on the post between the doors.

The stage 1 is not just appearance. Its appearance in a variety of forms (there are many options) plus the vehicle is lowered and it has significant handling improvements (trust me on this one, my Roush corners very well), plus Roush exhaust.

The stage 2 adds skirts down the side of the truck.

Stage 3 adds a supercharger, bringing the power up to 445 HP.

I've got a stage 1 loaded with pretty much every item. The supercharger is in the works. We'll be doing a whole series of articles on the install, dyno tests, 1/4 runs. I'm not going to opt to get the stage 3 badges (I'll keep them in storage should I ever sell the truck).... I want to take people by surprise.

That is a very nice truck but way to expensive for me. I would go buy SRT-10 way before I would consider that, actually I would just go buy a used lightning. I really think it would lose some weight if they tried a regular cab. Hey I have one they can experiment with. I believe it is possible to get the 5.4 with an XL work truck with the regular cab and short bed. If not they should make performance parts for the guys like me that have the light 4.2 regular cabs.

Yuck... that's one ugly truck. All the Dodges are. The grill area is just way too bubbly looking. It wonder how it would do 0-60 against a Roush? Because with the Roushcharger the boost comes on pretty much instantly so you're into the power a lot sooner. I'll find out soon enough.

Nothing to stop someone from buying the Roush equipment and putting on a regular cab.

Up my way, they call that the Champions Edition F150. Its just the 20" wheels with the billet grille, and some emblems.

Does Roush make any internal modifications to the engine before they add the supercharger like Ford did with the Lightning motors? Or, do they just add the supercharger to a stock 5.4? If so, what about the long term durability of the engine, and who warrantys the modification, as the Ford warranty is very specific about adding performance modifications.

I thought roush was taking over for SVT so all the warranty stuff should still be covered by ford. that is as long as ford did the install if the parts were ordered after the fact or if you bought the truck already done. I can't see how they wouldn't have to cover it if it's like that from the dealer. It usally only gets sticky with performances parts if they are installed else where.

I love the way the dodges look, they have a very beafy look to them. I almost got an 03 1500 with a HEMI, and it was a regular cab short bed. I got my brand new truck for $14,500 wich was a few thousand less than the dodge, and I couldn't beat the price so I got the ford. There is a very big power difference especially since my new truck has a V6, but it does prety good. I couln't imagine having the V6 without the manual it probably would feel really slugginsh.
