Question Truck start up issue

Every once in a while my truck wont start unless I put it in neutral or disconnect and reconnect the batteries.

There is a weird clicking/buzzing noise from under the dash when it doesnt start.

Also I noticed that when it did it the other day the volt meter ran flat, then was back up 20 seconds later.

Anybody experience anything like this?
Any suggestions?

Thanks
WB

id like to know also. as sometimes mine does something similar.
when i turn the key to start i get a rapid clicking and then the motor wont start. take the key out and back in and it fires right up.

any diagnosis for this would be great.

My buddy just had a similar problem with the voltmeter. It turned out it was the UVC connector. The wire going to it rubbed through and shorted out.

sounds like the same problem I am having. I figured since the alarm was on the fritz a week before, that it was the kill switch. Any insight on this?

the UVC connector is the plug that goes into the valve cover union at the head, in the valley side of the engine. the actual gasket has wires running through it, and the plug on the outside may be loose. let me see if i can get a pic here.

here is the pic

I replaced the batteries and solved the problem.... seems like an odd problem to have with bad batts, but it worked like a champ and still is

not really that odd, when your glow plugs fire they draw massive amperage, pulling voltage down in an already dead battery, once they disconnect, voltage returns. whenever that key hits the on position, it creates pretty sizeable amperage draw on the batteries even before the starter engages. anytime you here buzzing/clicking while starting usually an indicator that the voltage has dropped low enough to not keep a solenoid/relay engaged, and batteries are at the top of the troubleshooting list.
