I have a 2006 F150 4-wheel short bed Larit with the 5.4 engine.
Crew cab
Local muffler shop guy to install on Monday. Bump into this guy at resturant
Friday night. He is along time aquantinces. I forget what he wants to install
but it can't be that good for $250.00. I do know I asked for dual's.
What I would like to know is what I need as the money is not a problem.
I want a quiet truck and no drone at highway speeds. BUT, I want it loud enough that the sound is envious and get comments about what type of system is installed. I do not want true duals as I do not want to have problems with Ford.
Any suggestions
John

Reason: truck info
Flowmaster 50 series with deltaflow, got mine done at a shop. Single in, dual out, $258.00 with all mandrel bent pipe. No drone, not real loud, kinda what your looking for.
my truck isn't the newer F150's with the triton v8, but I've been happy with my dual flowmaster 40 setup on my '96 F150 w/ 302. I actually have no drone at highway speeds, apparently due to placement under the bed rather than cab.
it's loud outside the cab and get comments all the time on how aggressive it sounds, has a great idle tone and you can hear it in cab when you floor it but once you get up to cruising speed of 60mph+ you don't hear it unless you happen to punch it to pass someone.
I've heard people say the flowmaster 40 has bad drone but have made plenty of 5hr+ road trips and never once noticed noise while having cruise set around 90-95mph lol
I have dual 3.5" pipes out rear and the original 40 series
this is just advice on the flowmaster 40 though in general.... most of my friends all have older F-series with the flowmaster 40 setups and none complain of highway drone although half of us have neighbors that complain about the noise haha but can't really say how loud in cab it'd sound on a newer F-series, but would assume it'd be similiar if not quieter due to the multiple cats still in place.

I had a Magnaflow on my Diesel, I liked it but it was very expensive. It's up to you but I think the guy's on this forum can probably get you as much if not more for your money! Issue or not..don't give it away!

Sorry if I sounded like money ment nothing. I have to work 60 hours a week to have my toys.

thats just it, your trucks two cats make it quieter...i had a 93 with a 302 and the two stock cats into duals out the back, no muffler...it was quiet in the cab and not that loud outside the cab....on the newer trucks the cats dont tone down the sound anyhting like the older cats did

that's not what I was saying....
I said

I was implying that the newer v8 would be quieter than the setup I have due to the multiple (doesn't the new F-series have 4?) cats still in place..... even when I still had my cats, my '96 wasn't exactly quiet.... with the cats still in place I could hear the exhaust tone idle all the way up through the powerband but not an annoying drone. it was far from quiet in cab but at cruising speeds, road noise covered the exhaust sound and didn't have any annoying drone going....
without the cats..... In the cab, I can hear the exhaust easily but wouldn't call it a drone, nor annoying. and outside you can hear my truck from a distance at idle just fine. lol thus why neighbors hate me
I guess to each his/her own though, some might call the normal exhaust note of a v8 "drone" but sounds fine to me and cruising I never really notice it over the road noise and radio unless I just happen to change the rpm's when passing or something.
but as far as the newer F-series being louder with the stock cats still in place, I really can't vouch for.... I've heard a lot of 5.4L F150's running around with no muffler even and I've never noticed it being as loud as say one of my friends still running with the 2 stock cats in place and either no muffler or a flowmaster 40 series and far from being as loud as the cats chopped out. dunno lol I'm around a lot of fords
