2006 6.0 L Psd

Ok... after reading another thread i decided to start this one and see what we can figure out... alot of people are complaing (and im one of them) about the s##ty gas milage that were getting on our 2006 6.0L PSD's.... so i thought if we can start getting some common stat's that we might be able to track down a reason why?? worth a shot anyway... some guys are reporting 16+ mpg but most of us are saying 11-13mpg... below are the questions that i think need to be asked to start tacking down the reasons for differences in MPG??

1. MAKE OF TRUCK 250, 350 ECT....

2. BUILD PLANT... WHERE WAS YOUR TRUCK BUILT ??

3. MILES ON THE TRUCK

4. TRUCK SPEC'S... WHAT THE TRUCK HAS ON AND IN IT.. FROM STOCK TO MODS (&WHAT MODS, ADDITIONS, OR ANYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF THAT WOULD EFFECT GAS MILLAGE)???

5. BUILD DATE?

6. EXTEMATED MPG??

If you can think of anything else that needs to be added in this area to help find out what is so different about everyones trucks and why some are getting good mpg and why some arn't ?????? then let me know and ill add it or add it in another post??

you might want to narrow your focus. the rear end gearing. whether its dually or single rear wheel, additives to fuel all will play a factor. not to mention how hard people drive their trucks i.e. drive it like you stole it.

Fuel quality seems to vary from place to place, you should post location as well.

In a few hours (after i get off work) ill be leaving on vacation. (ya me) I just went over 6400 miles and this will be the big test on gas milage.. I will try to keep track of gas prices, location, speed/rpm's, driving conditions, and anything else i can think of during this trip. I dont know when i will be able to post again but i will when i can or when i return. It will be interesting to see where this thread is at when i get back. Moderaters.. please feel free to adjust this thread to make it out to be what we are trying to do here. thanks....

Trying to develop a matrix or trend regarding MPG on these 6.0s is a valiant but, I fear, futile exercise.

There are so many variables involved it is my opinion that it will be near impossible.

The single largest determining factor is driving style which varies with each individual.

Then you add stock vs. programmers (and which programmer), EGR valve deletion, additives, variety of oil types, fuel quality, lifts (and how much), tires (to many to list), tire PSI level, intakes, exhaust, terrain, rear-end gearing, 4x4 vs 2x4, dually, dually 4x4, auto vs 6 speed, loads, trailered loads, profile of load / trailer, bed covers / caps, etc.....

...Well, you get my point.

Have a safe, fun, and mechanically non-challenged vacation and let us know how you did.

Well where should i start. Im at work not at home right now so i dont have all my info infront of me but ill do the best i can.

I left on the morning of 28 sept for Centeral utah basicly. My first tank i got about 445miles at about 15 mpg (I refuled in oregon, i do not recomend this to anyone $3.50 per gal). I had my mother riding with me so we stoped in Idaho for the night. We moved on the next moring and I made it to Draper Utah ( 505 miles at 18 MPG ). Now mind you that i do use DK at well. I use around 11ish OZ's or so per tank.

Needless to say I averaged about 75 - 80 mph most of the way there and my A/C was on over 95% of the time. While home i used about 2 or 3 Tanks and most of those were with the A/C on and I drove it like i Stold it more often then not . Again i averaged about 15 to 16 mpg. Ive been home for a few days now but i havnt checked to see what my average was on the trip back. Over all i am very please with the preformance of my truck and the milage. The cost of gas is a totally different demon, average over $100 per fill up ....... Anyway this trip was great. I put over 300k miles on the truck and with the exeption of replacing my windshild
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...placement.html
it was a very sucessful and Mech. uneventfull trip. ill add more later.
and Yes KW i do know what your saying. I guess its like the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, why does it do that, why not rise in the west and set in the east ???? ....
