On Board Air Compressor Please Help!!!
I am in need of an air compressor to take along on my trips. Just incase I need to fill tires. I need to know what works the best and is easy to use. What PSI do they go up to? It does not need to be permanent, if I could use it in other trucks this would be better for me. What brands to look for and were to buy. How do they connect? To the cigarette lighter or directly to the battery? Please note I am looking for quality not junk. I will have this until I can’t drive anymore. Thanks and appreciate your time.
If you are looking for a true "on board" system that is powered by the engine (belt driven) there are different options. Those units usually also provide air pressure to the air brakes, air horns and windshield wipers (ie fire apparatus)

I tested it out on my tires a few nights ago, it pumped the tire from 15psi to 57psi in 10 minutes flat. I had always heard that Viair compressors were the chit, so I dug up the specs on my HF air compressor vs. Viair compressors. . .
Viair 300P - 0.92 CFM @ 90 PSI
HF Compressor - 1.05 CFM @ 90 PSI
Viair 400P - 1.41 CFM @ 90 PSI
It has a max PSI of 150, it hooks to the battery terminals, has a 30 amp fuse and a thermal shutoff to keep the pump from overheating. Even comes with a nifty carrying case!
Not too shabby in my opinion, BUT the quality of Chicago Electric/Pneumatic goods is suspect, seems they always include the 'magic blue smoke' feature on all of their stuff!
