I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. I have a 1997 F-250 HD 5.8 L that came with custom molded fiberglass steps.
Over time the wonderful New England weather rotted out the support bar underneath the step on the passenger side and it broke one day when I stepped on it. The Ford dealership tells me this part is no longer available and I can not seem to find a welder who is willing to help. I've seen a number of other similar model trucks with the same steps as mine so I'm thinking there's got to be some place that stocks these. I can't believe they just do not exist any more.
Stocking parts.... doubt it. You might have to bite the bullet and try to make some yourself, or go with a different set of steps. I'm surprised no one will make a set, it's a easy job that they could make a little bit of money on.
I did have a set, but threw them out when I bought my Westin nerf bars.
Sorry for the delayed response. Unfortunately this does not look like what I have. I was trying to figure out how to post a picture and I do not see a way to do this other than by a URL link.
I tried 2 welders. The first one I guess was too busy to even call me back after I described what I had. The second welder I tried I got as far as bringing it over to him to look at but then he never called me back to schedule an appointment. I guess these people don't need the work. The steps themselves are in perfect condition. It's just the support bars that have deteriorated from road salt. I'm determined to see if I can either find them somewhere or try a third welder.
I have an update to this thread. I managed to find a welder who came recommended by a local mechanic we use and he was able to fabricate a new support bar which came out really good! The nice part is he only charged me $75 to do the job. It was well worth the money. Looks as good a new again. I guess the third time is the charm :-)
