1963 F100 getting a 292
Hello.
I have a 1963 F100. Truck has a 223 with 3 on the tree. Found a 292 that was profesionally rebuilt and run for a few thousand miles in a 64 F100. The 292 is complete with the exception of a Carb. First question would be will this engine interchange with the 223 and fit on the tranmission that is in the truck without ? When the engine was in the 64 truck it had a edelbrock 600 cfm 4bbl universal carb on it and he said the truck ran good. The carb has gone on to another engine. The 4bbl intake manifold stays on the engine. Any recomendations for a carb would be appreciated ? Engine has original exhaust manifolds but no cross over. Flex pipe was run to dual exhaust. I am thinking of putting Reds headers and a JC Whitney universal exhaust kit (exits before rear wheels) with inexpensive turbo mufflers on the truck. I am on a budget. Do not want a neighborhood waking hearing loss type of exhaust. Would appreciate any recommedations on exhaust, mufflers, etc. ?
I get to see this engine sitting on a garage floor and can not run it before purchasing. Any tips on what to look for in this situation would be appreciated.
Thank you
Andy...

For Andy63. I saw your gallery photo of the '63 F-100 and noted that you were planning to change out your 223 six. Interested in talking about selling the 223? Contact me at whjenk(No Email Addresses In Posts!). I live about 150 miles from the location you indicated in your gallery. Thanks

Andy, put another 600 Holley carb on it, then have a muffler shop rebuild the crossover between the stock manifolds. Put on single exhaust with one glasspack. My brother has this exact setup on his 64 and its the best sounding truck Ive ever heard. It is much cheaper than the header/ dual exhaust, and is not nearly as restrictive as it looks. Have fun

Andy, I've got a 61 F100 with a 292 y-block. My father in-law was a great mechanic.. when he bought motors from the junk yard, he would take a wrench and try to turn the fan belts if they turned pretty good then the engine is good. I would still check for oil leaks around heads but if its been rebuilt you should be in good shape. I've got the orginal exhaust on my truck,,, I'm thinking of doing some custom bending rather headers, and using a nice turbo muffler
Good Luck

If you don't have a bellhousing, get one,
you're going to need it, I'm not sure if
the trans is the same between the 223 & 292,
but you may need a different tranny also...

Hi.
I have the 292 engine in the back of the truck now. It came with a bell housing and hydraulic clutch. The transmission is the same and should fit. Received Reds Headers and have gathered most of the parts needed to do the swap. Ford welded a bracket to the front cross memeber when putting 292 in. The 223 is longer and fit through a hole in the front cross memeber. Going to have to figure out something for that.
