Just wanting to find out if anyone else has problems with truck bouncing going down the road.
2002 F-250 SD Long Box 7.3L Diesel
Rim : Helo 8 Maxx 20x10
Tire: BFGoodrich LT 325/60 R20
Sometimes it rides smooth and other times i feel like im on a jackhammer, I balance the tires and it rides fairly smooth for a week or two, then starts bouncing all over again. I have replaced the shock removed helper springs, nothing else seems to help, and i cant balance my tires every other week.
What do you mean bounce? What speeds? If you mean it seems like the back of your truck is bouncing around and the cab feels like its vibrating the crap out of everything between 38-43 mph, then yeah, I am having the same issue.
I have a 2003 SD, I notice this more when I'm pulling my 4 horse bumper pull trailer. The only thing that I've found to help is to increase the air pressure in the front tires 15-20 lbs over the door rating. It doesn't get rid of it but it seems to help. I have also noticed that it happens more on concrete paved roads than on blacktop. I had a friend tell me that she was in a duramax with a gooseneck trailer on it and it did the same thing. Good luck and please let us know what you come up with.. Don..
I talked to one guy at a 4 wheel off road shop and he said he has 2 trucks just like mine, and it bounced the whole time he had it, he said it had something to do with the length of the truck hitting the bumps onthe concrete roads. yea mine doesnt do it on Asphalt either, only concrete.
I have found a couple guys who said that Balance bags might help to dynamically balance the tire as you drive, so i ordered 4 of those and should be getting them next week, when i install them i wil let you guys know if it helps.
Speed typically its anywhere from 45 to 65 depending on the road surface.

Concrete road surfaces, unlike asphault, are constructed by laying slabs of concrete down one after the other, like brickwork. After time these slabs move and shift and create different angles, so each slab is different. My truck does the same exact thing. I have a friend who lives in a "richie" part of town, and one of the parkways there is made out of concrete. My truck is just the right length that it hits these concrete slabs just right, feels like I am in a big giant washing machine.
Search the web and read reviews on the American made diesel pickups. One of the only bad things discussed with the comfort of the 7.3 was the rough ride. These aren't cadillacs, they're work trucks...and some ride like work trucks I guess.
We have the same issue with Semi tractor trailers when you set the tandems at the wrong distance apart to accomadate weight distribution the drive tires of the truck hit the joints at a different time than the ones on the trailer causing a jerking feeling. The problem with some of out trucks is the length is off by just a short amount causing this same misalignment as they hit those joints.

Your close actually the roads are usually built as one huge slap of concrete, and then those joints are cut into it for expansion purposes. The cut isn't actually clear through but the temp changes cause it to crack at that point instead of a random jagged crack so it's consistant (ever seen a solid one slap driveway crack, thats what would happen if these weren't' put in to a road)
Smokin, I agree with ya man that these trucks are work trucks and will have some roughness to the ride which is understandable, but Jeez the whole washing machine thing is exactly right. There has to be something that can be done to smooth them out a little bit. I know its never going to ride like a cadillac, but it shouold at least ride like a yugo =).
I let you guys know if the balance bags help at all, they should be here by Wednesday and i will be putting them in right away, then report bacl on my findings
Never had the problem myself but other threads talked about it and the consensus was a couple bags of sand in the back. Shifts the balance and weight ratio. These trucks are designed to be loaded all the time.

I just put a tractor tire in the bed of my truck for a tempory fix until i figure out the cause of my bounce/vibration is. it does help for me.
I have tried the balance bags did not work , they busted inside the tire and made a royal mess out of the rims and the tire man bitched the whole time he was putting on my next set of tires
