Cutting down the turn stops?

I'm looking for some input on the idea of why these trucks are set to only turn as far as they do, and what about cutting down the turn stops to alow a little extra turn radius.

2001 F-250 4x4 ext cab, long bed, 7.3 td.

Thanks

I have never heard of anyone doing that. I also dont know why you would need to, your probably not going to gain that much out of it.

Gotta go take a look at the wheels with it turned all the way to one side. See how much clearance is left. I am assuming right now that there isn't too much room. FortyFords might be right about the tire rub.

I took a look at the clearence today and am fine as it is. I also took a look at the u-joints and there isn't much twist in them with the wheel turned all the way. I was thinkin if the tires won't scrub, the U-joints are good, and the linkage still has some movement left, could there be any problems getting a little more turn.

ya know...I might cut mine down farther than needed then drill and tap them so I can fine tune as needed with a bolt. A little more turning radius would be bitchin. I was trying to park the other day and a duramax 2500 took the inside line to the spot next to me like he was a shriner in a go cart.

If there are no issues with the clearances, then there should be no issues with moving the turn stops to get a slightly better (even one degree would help) turning radius. Also 95% of the turns involving going all the way to the turn stops are done at a real slow speed too. The only thing I would look more carefully at is the steering linkages.

After thinking about this some more ,You may cause a roll problem and scrub tire problem due to the caster/ camber angles. Also while in 4x4 the u-joints may bind and cause a premature wear in the small needle bearings and the splines within the front diff.
I'm sure the Dana engineers were well aware of the extreme they could go.

Just cut the wheel hard and nail the throttle, she'll come 'round.

Just take comfort in knowing you have a real front axle...

True. Nothing like having a solid front axle. The turning radius doesn't bother me much. I am used to it and have learned to accomodate it. I accept the fact that the truck is a large vehicle and cannot turn and stop on a dime or twist and take-off like my Mustang can. Just one of the small prices we pay for "sitting high and looking far" as my wife calls it.
