Yep looks like a turbo 223, lol. You can move your mouse around on the picture and click on the little box that pops up to get a closer look. As for cams I've tried getting info on rebuilding the 223 on this site and on the inline six forum and get little to no response. The best advice has been to get the small block ford engine rebuilding book. I have will be getting that as it seems like my only option for advice at this point. The inline six forum seems to be dominated by the 300 inline 6. Guess most guys just yank the 223 at the first hint of trouble and throw in the V-8. Only thing that iritates me about the 223 is not the lack of power, its that I cannot put in an automatic transmission. PM me if you get some helpful info on the cam issue as I was thinking of rebuilding and boring it out slightly and putting a cam with a little more oomph to it. I hope to have a clifford intake and exhaust set up soon also.
On the intake issue. Did you switch out the stock gas pedal and put in a cable set up when you put in the clifford intake?

I havent hooked the gas pedal back up, i flew to england before i got finished. so when i get back ill see which im going to do. im acually thinking about putting in a foot print gas pedal as corny as that sounds
i tried to find a auto transmission that would work but i havent yet. i found one guy who put an auto in, but i wasent able to get in contact.
I know i can get all the bored and rebuilt parts from LMC, i dont knwo about a better cam. i know they have stock ones tho.

don't see why you cant run and auto trans, they ran Fordomatics behind 223's for years...I've never found any info on cams for the 223 either, and Ive looked for years
I've asked and asked and searched and searched and for some reason you cannot bolt up an auto to the 64 223. I don't have a fordomatic to test fit for sure, but many folks who spend all their free time on these trucks stated it was not possible. I wish someone would prove them wrong and post a pic of a 64 223 with an auto. My best guess on the cams is when you realy get ready to rebuild call the manufacturing companies and see what the teckies can do for you. My searches for performance have led to a lot of sites dedicated to the mustang 250. You can buy new aluminum heads and hook up EFI etc... Its slightly frustrating but I've got too much time and money to give up on the 223 now though, shes got a home and will not see a scrap yard anytime soon.

HEY BEN, my mistake, they were not Fordomatics, they were Cruisomatics in 64, I'm looking in a 1964 FORD shop manual, and they list them behind 223's..here are the trans model numbers..PBC-R ( 223 F100 )..PBC-M (223 F250) PAU-l (223 F350)..PAU-M (P350-500)..but I think you could use a Fordomatic from the earlier years also, don't give up it can be done...I've managed to keep my 223 runing since I built it in 1975 and plan on running it alot longer
The COM for a 223 in a truck is very hard to find. Problem is the minute number of trucks they were installed in. There are lots of 223 equiped cars with automatic but they do not use the integral bell housing mounts.
for 64 its a one year only thing.
I have seen one in 30 years of parts scrounging.
Go to the hamb board and post a want ad. lots of rodders there who may have access to a truck ford o matic for 61 to 63 or a 64.
There are lots of nostalga parts out there for the 223. i had a fenton six log intake along with tri cast hedders and a vertex mag a few years back i picked up and then sold as i dropped the 223 project.
Another route is to adapt a C4 to the 223. They make plates to adapt a Y block so a plate for a 223 should be along the same lines.... If enough intrest is generated someone may take the initative to make them.
Not that simple as the truck engine is still mounted in the front of the damper. Engine will flop like a fish in the compartment with no transverse mounts.
yes I had that problem when I put a 4 spd top loader behind a 223, added a crossmember that used the side mounts on the engine, which I like better and still have it in the truck, made it easy when I put in the 390 FE, now im back to the 223 engine and 3spd overdrive but still use the engine side mounts, and bellhousing mounts, so theres lots of combos to use to make an auto work
they have aftermarket cross members but I made my own, cut one from a 57-59 passenger car and welded a couple of pieces of angle on each end and bolted it to the frame..that gives you the flexibilty of using a 223, 292, or and FE
