Do I have a problem?

I changed my fuel filter this morning and I thought all was going well. When I turned the switch to check for leaks, I found one. It was leaking all the way around the lid. I opened the water drain to relieve the pressure and took the cap off to check things out. Things looked good. Replaced the cap and tighted down a little more than before. Closed the water drain valve and turned switch on again. Heard fuel flowing, it was pouring out of the water drain valve. I worked the valve several times and cycled the fuel pump to check. It took several more times of each before it quit leak through the valve. I think it has stopped now, but until I get the other problem fixed (other thread) I can't be sure. Question is, am I OK or do I have a problem? I am hoping the valve had a little trash in it and kept it from closing right. What do you guys think?
Thanks.

the o-rings go out just replaced mine. Ford only seels the assembly 71.00 but www.puredieselpower.com has the o-rings for 10 bucks. Garrett express mailed mine to me in 3 days for a 20dollar bump

Once again, Thanks. It doesn't appear to be leaking now. I have cleaned everything up and cycled the pump several times. I can hear the fuel going through the return line and nothing is coming out of the water drain line. Do you think I need to replace the o-rings anyway. Looks like a PITA to get to.

it is ... you will need a 1/4" ratchet and a T20 torx bit. get a flashlight and look down in the valley behind the fu=ilter housing if there is a puddle there dry it up then crank the truck and rev it a couple of times if the puddle comes back its the o-rings

I don't think mine is/was leaking around the valve housing. The fuel was coming out of the drain tube itself. I don't see any fuel in the valley. It was coming out under the engine. Does that still sound like an o-ring?? The fuel that was leaking on top was coming out around the lid. I don't thing the beveled gasket was seated right the first time. I can't find or smell any fuel on the top side and it seems to have stopped coming out of the drain tube.

keep an eye on it but you should be fine if you can get someone to rev the engine while you look under the truck just to be sure. mine didnt leak bad at idle but gushed at about 1500 rpm

zx250,

If it's coming out of the drain tube, it's definately the o-rings inside the plastic valve assembly.

It's not a two-minute job, but can easily be done with the right tools. See this thread:

Posts 11 and 15.

BTW, my BUNA o-rings are still going strong a year and a half later. It would have been nice to have had Viton ones, though.

Thanks Pop. I guess I will add that to my "need to do list for this weekend". I just took it for a hard drive and checked for signs of leakage. I didn't see any fuel in or around the drain tube, but since it was leaking and after reading that thread, I will change it asap. Dang, I should have went fishing this weekend like usual.
