There shouldnt be a reason why I couldnt slap a set of 4.10's on my factory 3.50 carrier is there? I understand what's involved in setting up the gears, but as far as the different ratio'd R&P's on the 3.50 carrier shouldnt be a problem, right? THANKS!!!
Sorry about the tech thread in the NWC. I HONESTLY meant to post it into the 4x4 section, but being 12:30am, i mixed up the 63 and 89 in the address i guess.
Oh, and the rig's a 76 F100

i THINK the carriers are all the same... it doesn't seem to matter what the gears are going in when you buy them- unless it's a high pinion. i've used chevy spider gears in my highboy with no problems, and put front 44 gears in the rear 44 on an old 55 F100 I used to have... alot of words here but no clear answers- yep: normal for me... LMAO
remember, little grasshopper...the HP D44 uses reverse cut gears.
Bob (oldhalftons) has a magazine of mine that has an article on regearing the D44. Might see if he can get it to you this weekend.
Hang on, my brain is a little slow today-
You need a high pinion D44 gearset and carrier for a 4.10 ratio-
I happen to have just such a setup sitting in the front of my 72. If anybody from this area is driving a truck or car out there (I don't want to throw this at Chris on his bike), I can pull it tonight and have it on it's way tomorrow.
Kerry, are you going?
Either way. I might potentially be a bit busy tomorrow with a run up to Bellingham, but that won't be until in the afternoon. It'll probably take me about an hour to pull the gears, the axles are already out of it. If nobody can take it, i'll pull it and box it up on Sunday.
I can't swing the cash to make a trip up there for the drunken stupor, I mean BBQ. Navy screwed up my paycheck and shorted me almost 300 bucks last paycheck... So I'm going to be home nursing a sore wallet for the next week... That and I need to get my buddies cars done so I can get my truck back...(long story)

May I make a suggestion unless you have a press or access to a press it might be cheaper to have someone else setup your gears. It's not that I am saying you couldn't do the setup, it's the fact that you end up pressing bearings on and off sometimes several times (ask Ivan about that) and if your paying a machine shop each time it gets real expensive real quick, I figure my press paid for itself by about the second gearset I setup with it.
