Just asking any thoughts on a 1996 4x4 explorer that the owner says the flywheel is locked up from her son running the truck through water . I havent looked it over any yet but maybe its nothing serious ? and maybe it is .
Sounds like it's hydraulicly locked. Water isn't compressible and when it gets sucked into an engine it can do a lot of damage, usually bending rods. Here's a pic of a 5.0 piston and rod that tried to become a water pump:
The damage to this engine was fairly slight compared to what can happen. I'd say a teardown is in order, but first remove the plugs and see if the engine will turn over. Maybe they got lucky and the water is locking up the engine but hasn't caused any other damage. If it' seems okay, be sure to change the oil before running it.
