I'm a new member to the Ford Enthusiast web page and I'm quite impressed. I did post this message earlier but apparently i wasn't in the correct message bored so I got poor responses. I recently bought a 65 f-250 that a previous owner dropped a new engine in. I think it is a 351 but I'm not sure, plus I dont know if it is a windor, cleveland or some other make. I bought a Chiltons manual and it said the engine identification tag was under the ignition coil, which of course it wasn't. Anyone have a clue where it might be or how I can find the exact make of this engine? Thanks Bill
Hi Bill, You do know that there are three 351s don't you, the 351C, 361M, and 351W? Do the spark plug bank look like this \\// or\\\\? Does water go into the intake or not. Can you look at the two top bolts of the bell and see if they are about 5" or 8" apart? The 302 and 351W look very much alike. What makes you think it is not a 352 or 360? We'll try to help, but we don't have a lot to chew on.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
302 and 351W look the same however they use difrent fireing orders so one might use the fireing order to id the motor. HOWEVER during a rebuild I installed a new camshaft in my 302 and it was poping fire out the carb! Come to find out the guy at the sppedshop ordered the came for a 351W so I have a 302 that runs on 351W fireing order, I bet i'm the only one.
Two ways to tell the C an M 351 it the thermostat housing goes to the block, (400 also) The W, the thermostat housing is on the intake manifold. The other way is the fuel pump. the bolts on the W is front and back of the fuel pump..on the C and M the fuel pump bolts are top and bottom of the fuel pump.
Thanks for the feedback. I checked the engine and the firing order is 15426378. The sparkplugs are lined up in the v formation \\//. The fuel pump bolts are on the sides of the pump. From the info I got from everyone it sounds like it is a windsor. Thanks, Bill
Bill, Someone may have been pulling your leg. You have a FE, not a Windsor and likely the engine that came in the truck, a 352. Still a great engine.
