I have a 1995 Explorer Sport 4.0 Auto. Normally it runs fine, but when driven long distances, it just dies after about 200 miles. After waiting some time, it will start back up again, and you are on your merry way. Any ideas? I suspect that it is a computer problem because when I try to pull codes, the reader says that it is unable to communicate with the computer. I believe that this is an OBD I system and I suspect that the reader I was using only reads OBD II. Could someone refresh my memory on how to manually pull flash codes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dan R.
95 are obd II the manual way of pulling codes ( with a paper clip and a voltage reader) is a pain to do but if you want to do it that way use the search option and keywords pulling codes lots of post's on how to do it if you have a auto zone near you they pull codes for free
The 95s are OBDI/EECIV. They have an OBDII port under the dash that is non-functional. You have to use the EECIV connectors under the hood. Autozone can pull them for you, just make sure you tell them to use the connectors under the hood. THere are quite a few posts on this site that tell you how to pull them manually.
