My 89 Bronco (302) is not running at all now. It cranks over fine (till the battery died) just won't start. Before that it was running very rough, no power, as soon as you stepped on the gas it choked. I pulled the codes and if I'm interpreting right, got code 11, and 33. It looked like 33 was a continuous code. 11 in Hayes says system checks, but 33 isn't listed. A buddy of mine, who I did not know was a self proclaimed Ford mechanic (jury is still out on that one) suggested the crank position sensor. Sounded good to me so I half heared looked into it and haven't really found anything on it cept for the diesels. Am I crazy or whats up.
That'd be great if your truck HAD a CPS. It doesn't. Code 11 is a "system pass" indicator which merely shows that there are no on-demand codes stored in the computer's memory. Code 33 indicates that the EGR valve either did not open or the EVP (EGR Valve Position) sensor is not funtioning. While its a long shot, its doubtful that this is the root of the no-start problem. Since you obviously can't run the KOER test, I would recommend having the ICM (Ignition Control Module) checked out. In your 89, its mounted to the side of the distributor casting. Rectangular, grey, plastic device with a seven-pin electrical connector at one end. The symptoms you described are indicative of a dead or dying ICM. Most major parts chains can check them out for you. And since they are about $60-75 its best to be certain before you just go replacing it.
Once you have the truck started and running again, it will be easier to troubleshoot Code 33.

Thx for the info. I was pretty sure this thing didn't have a cranck sensor seeing as the manual makes no mention and the forum search is all about diesels. Can your average autozone check ICMs or does that have to go back to the dealer for testing??
