I have an '03 6.0 diesel and have been pulling a 31ft 5th wheel about 10,000lbs. When accelerating up slight hill and no down shift the truck sputters and shakes like a backfire jerk and has no power. Ford finds nothing as usual and wants to test drive with load but I wanted some info here first. The noises come from driver side like a blow valve and kinda groins then shutters/jerks repeatedly until I either downshift or level off. I can duplicate this even when on level ground by gently accelerating and not down shifting(torqueshift auto). I have had the reflash done about 4-5 months ago. Also notice black smoke when hard accelerating under load. Truck actually lost speed when climbing very small grade, 1-2% 2 miles long! Any help would be great. Thanks Dan.

Reason: spelling....
Don't know too much about the problem but just wanted to send this to the top of the forum for you.
Welcome to FTE! Hope your service department is able to help you out. You know those 6.0 are kinda known for going through turbos. Maybe that could be the culprit?
Sounds like it might be the turbo as I know there is no wastegate....this turbo was put on about 20k miles ago at bout 40-45k and now I have 65k on the truck..Seems I'm the unlucky one as the trans already fixed at 38k. Any idea if ford replaces with factory turbo's or rebuilt turbos? Have a service appt on friday so I will update.....Thanks. Any other info is appreciated....
