I recently almost got into a crash when stomping on the brakes i failed to push in the clutch while traviling at about 50 mph in 5th gear the rear breaks locked up for a split second ant i got down to about 15-20 mph. Now the engine runs kind of rough and makes a strange hissing or sucking sound while on the throttle hard or while downshifting. any thoughts
Had that kinda thing happen once. On an '88 Ranger. The hose blew clear off the booster. Plug it back in & should buy a new connector. O the brake pedal would pretty much go way down with little effort & no stopping power. When that happened slammimg on the pedal, I was so relieved & puzzled, I nearly hit him a 2nd time in bad traffic. Wasn't ready for the full suite of symptoms. I didn't know what had really happened until I spent time at night looking over the hydraulics, then followed that loud new hiss. I think my jaw dropped a bit. Never came up again & hadn't really fixed it right.
i looked in the engine compartment and under the truck today and saw no disconnected hoses and the sucking or hissing sound has worked itself out as far as i can hear i thank you all for the help :<)
Just in case, do a final checking of all the vacuum lines running off the intake manifold "tree". You'll see it, it's pretty obvious, something sticking out of the intake manifold with a lot of black hoses. It's on the driver side of my 4.0L, not sure on your 2.3L.
You might check the recall notices on this website. The '92 Ranger had a problem with the studs that attach the brake master cylinder to the vacuum booster. After hard braking or extended use, the studs, if corroded, could break and result in diminished braking capacity. A symptom (possibly) might be a vacuum leak.
