[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Apr-02 AT 11:44 AM (EST)]Terry, 65 through 72 F100 should all be the same width providing you have a 9 inch rear. Dana's were used on some of these from what I understand, and I don't know if that would be a bolt in fit. Ford widened the rear of the frame in 73, and therefore widened the rear end. I don't know anything about trucks previous to 65, as far as what they used.
Terry, Tell us a bit more about the problem. Ford 9 inch rearends are all interchangeable, that is they unbolt from the differental housing. There is a difference in width of the housings and the length and number of axle splines (28 verses 36). So whats up with this? Why are you considering replacement? And do you have a 9 inch or one of the Dana types?

william,
the reason i need to know. is because about three
years ago i had my stock rearend narrowed. so that i could
run mickey thompson pro street tires. in the near future
i will go back to stock lenght rearend. so from what yall
have told me any f-100 from 65-72 will work.any further
info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, terry
Terry, Now I understand. I would install a 73 or newer Ford 9 inch rearend. You will need to move the spring perches a tad. Doing this will make the rear track match the front and allow you to use wheels with the same back set. When Ford went to the Twin I Beam suspension system they left the rear track the same as prior years. Twin I Beam suspension is about 2 inches wider. If you use same size tires front and rear you will be able to rotate tires and have a same size spare with no problem.
