Talking Intercooler addition to 96 PSD

I will be adding an intercooler to my truck and need some info on where to get the intake spyder.

I saw an after market made from stainless a while back but can't find it.

Also, which IC should I use. Plastic or aluminum tank units that come with the newer trucks or aftermarket?

I'm not going to get real crazy with mods for HP gains but will be adding Stage1 injectors and a custom chip, so I figured that an intercooler should be added to the list.

Thanks in advance.

There's a really good link that a member posted up about the mod... lemme see if i can find it. It had the part numbers and everything. The used an all aluminum one.. Kinda makes me not sure about fitment issues with this one Ive got with the plastic end tanks

Dick7.3, Great article, thanks. The spyder, for a lack of a better name, is the 5 hole cast piece for all the piping to connect to.

I recall seeing one that was fabbed out of stainless steel but, I think any type of material would work as long as the intercooler pipes and the turbo outlet pipes aren't touching.

It seems to me that the oem casting would heat-up and transfer alot of the heat you are attempting to get rid of through the intercooler.

Thanks 1997f-350, That really sucks. What's up with GTS, I read somewhere on this site they were not responding to members here. Maybe I'll get lucky and find one ina bone yard.

If I could get my hands a stock casted piece I'll make a fixture and weld-up my own.

Wouldn't be the first time I bit off more than I can chew!

Is this the article you're refering to

Very helpful!

Thanks 1997F-350, I looked over the site and didn't find a kit minus the IC.

I'd still like to get my hands on a y pipe. I'll make a fixture and fab-up one out of aluminum or stainless pipe. I think the cast piece has alot of heat transfer within itself. The stainless one I saw, the guy boasted 100 degree difference between the cast piece and the fabbed one. It makes sense.

I figure if I'm going to all the trouble of an IC....
