Hello -- I'm a newbie to this site, first post. I acquired this '85 F-250 in excellent condition -- only 63k miles. Took all the smog stuff off the engine & added Hedman headers Y'ed into single exhaust w/ flowmaster muffler, but basically very stock low compression 460 engine. I put on a different Holley carb (a used List 1850) and now have very poor mileage -- only 8-9 mpg and very sooty rich black exhaust. The engine runs very smoothly. I believe its a 3.5:1 rear end. I am trying to get optimum fuel economy, and have been told there are better carb options than Holley. All comments welcome, and thanks in advance -- Garcia
