If i were to use the same logic as those who put a dual 4" tip on a 1.8 liter honda engine, then my 77 F150 with the 400 in it should be ready for a set of 15" megaphone tips on.
The way i get that number is:
4"/1.8 liters = 2.22222 inches of exhaust tip per liter of engine.
so a 6.8 liter engine would thus require a just over a 15" set of exhaust tips.
Yes i am bored at work, and the honda that sounded like a fly on steroids going past me this morning got me thinking.
So, go ahead and see what your exhaust should really be like to be with the "in crowd" and post it here.
Yea, the 17 inchers I was looking for for my 460 were just too expensive, so I went down to the boat yard and picked up a couple of 33 gallon fuel barrels. Now I just need to drill the inlet hole, paint 'em silver, and try to hang them at that perfect height that lets them skim just over the road but hit on the speed bumps.
Mine works out to just over 11 inches, for a 302/5.0
But I have a dual exhaust system, so I figure I kin git away with using a pair of Folgers Coffee cans!https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/Images/yelrotflmao.gif

Wolf,
You forgot, BIGGER is better. How about two of those metal five gallon buckets??
you guys cant forget to run some vacum lines for the rest of the exuast! the 17 inch tip wont get ya that farting sound with out the vacum lines! atleast thats how it sounds
What ya really need to do is put some sparkplugs in those cans
and make some Flame throwers like the old days ,just to burn off some of that unburnt fuel.
Imagine that if you were in front of one of those ricers and ya fired um up
That would scare the begeezzez out of them!

I have a buddy who was going to sell his toyota corolla to me for $500 so I could drive something while I was rebuilding my engine. I was going to have a folgers coffee can welded on the end of the exhaust and put folgers performance stickers all over it, but then I figured that I have never owned anything but ford so why break the streak. A couple 55 gallon drums bolted to my bumper for exhaust tips should make me cool enough to run around with the "Fast and Furious" but I'll pass.
