Whats the best way to remove the trim around my wheel wells. i want to paint the trim balck, instead of the ugly tan it is now(with krylon!!). I dont know what the best way is to remove those plastic things theat hold it on, and if i remove it my ay, it'll end up with a trip to the dealer to get 32 of those thingys for replacment(and i bet they charge you a good arm & leg for em too). also, any recomendations for removing the bumper, i think some of the bolts are rusted on, so i'm getting a couplke cans of Liquid Wrench in case.
I use a trim tool to pull that type of fastener (go buy one at Autozone for about $8). While you could buy replacements at the dealer, it just so happens that NAPA has a wonderful selection of all sorts of plastic fasteners, including the barbed ones that you will probably need. I say probably since I don't know what year you are driving and must assume.
As for the bumper bolts, Try spraying the liquid wrench on them and let them sit for a while. Tap them with a hammer, and I wouldn't use a breaker bar, the head might shear off. If you have access to a jewelers torch, heat them a little that will definately help.
If you can wait for shipping, I would buy some Rost-Off. It supercools the bolt causing flash shrinking of the rust, then it slowly heats back up to room temp.
I don't know if anyone here has access to Conklin products(I used to be a rep) but they have a product called Rust Bomb that is absolutely the best penetrating oil I have ever used in my life and I have tried a lot of different things. You might be able to buy direct from their site at www.conklin.com but I'm not sure. Its not cheap at 11 or 12 dollars a can but trust me, it works like a champ.
Ok, thanks. i wanted to take them off to repain, because i'm putting a black scoop on it, and thing the rest of the truck should match. i also bought undercarriage lights for at night.
