I'm looking for some new rubber for my truck. I have already made the decision that i'm going bigger on stock rims (285/70/17). I just dont know what tire to go with. Most of my driving is highway with some playing in the mud but not much 99% highway. I love the look of all terrain tires but what one would be best for mostly road use. I have been on tire rack and i really like BFG A/T's but the brigstone dular a/t revo is rated very high????? I dont know what to do. I also need something to handle the snow i live in michigan. Any opinons on what tires would be best on my truck??
I have always had the best experiences with the BFG's Al Terrain KO's. This last run though I am using Pro Comp All Terrains and they have so far, done pretty good. Acceptable road noise, good wear, nice traction in water, mud and snow. The only reason I thought of going with the Pro Comp's was cause of a sale at the local 4 Wheel Parts store. Buy 3 get one free. So far they have held up to what I would expect out of the BFG's. Just regular rotations and all is well.
I recently purchased a set of the Bridgestone dueler AT Revos and so far have been pleased. They have a nice deep tread pattern and handle great in the rain and are quieter than the Toyo AT Open Country tires i had before. Havent had any snow to try them on and dont go off roading except for camping trips. I saw the reviews at Tire Rack and decided to give them a try although i was leary of the Bridgstone/Firestone product.

I have for my 2000 F-150 are BFG All-terrian tires and I really like them a lot. I have found that they are great in any kind of terrian that gets thrown at them except for sticky mud. If you are going through more mud then i would suggest more of a mud terrian tire. I have 285-70-R17 on my pickup and it really ties the pickup together. The only problem with the BFG tires was that they costed me a little under $200 per tire.
i have a set of Futuras on my 01 F-150 and they are at about 50% wear. For the road, they grip well, ride nice and they're quiet.
My old 90 F-250 had BFG's on it and I didn't care for them at all. They were ok on the road, but traction was an issue when I headed to the mountains to go hunting; they seemed load up quick (with mud) causing traction issues...good thing that I had 4wd. This is just my own personal experience with both tires (BFG's and Futuras)...others may differ.
A/T tires are a good pick... my bfg mudders dont like the road... the rubber last a good time on my tires... they are 35's but i like the life of my tires... but really to tell you the truth if your keeping the truck... spend a little more and get 20in rims n tires.
im just saying that if your going to do it,go crazy once.. not the next time around and you can sell your stock rims on ebay for something at least...
sorry im just saying what i want lol
but stock rims... I had procomp 33's A/T on 16's i think and loved how it looked.
plus the tires did not wear fast and it was a smooth ride.
my procomps were good n the rain and they could take turns at good speeds..WELL alot better then my BFG mud's
sorry im kinda just tossing info that i have from my own truck.
A/T.. less sound and smother ride
Mudders.. Loud and look cool but... ride naver be perfict... less rubber on road.

I'm also in the market for my 2nd set of skins. The Goodyears that came with the truck were useless after about 12,000 miles - squealing thru turns (like I was going @ NASCAR speeds) and slipping in the rain (as if I punched it at every stoplight). I went with the REVOs and have been very pleased. I've logged 48,712 miles on them, kept them inflated to the max sidewall pressure and they've been great up until about a week ago. I'm just starting to get some squeal on the onramps and a little slippage off the line when it's raining. I work nights (12mid to 8:00am) and my trip into work is virtually traffic-free. I religiously hit 100MPH every night for about 2 or 3 miles of my trip and drive the truck fairly hard otherwise. As my buddy said in Jan 2004 when I just got the REVOs installed, "why are you driving this thing so hard?" I said I was just breaking them in, seeing what they can do. **To this day I still haven't stopped.** These things grip the road well. I can also testify that there have been times where I'd usually put it in 4WD, but didn't have to because the tires are that good in the snow. I can't say for sure if they are quieter than the Goodyears, but they performed like they were new when they had 40,000 (hard driven) miles on them.
I was just wondering if there was something better than these. The guys on the EXPEDITION page LOVE them, and that's why I got 'em. I also put them on my wife's EXPY and she liked them from day one. Her's are the LT tire with a loadrange of C or D because we tow a 30' travel trailer and have about 25,000 miles on them and really have no signs of wear. I wonder if the LT load-range tires are made differently/better for the additional load therefore not breaking down as fast.
I need something before we get our 1st snowfall because I can see the wear indicators showing now. Plus moving @ 100 make me a bit nervous when the tread is getting thin.
BTW I was also weary of buying a Firestone product, but the reviews on tire rack say it all. Of course you'll get a few that don't like them, but the vast majority would buy them again. I most likely will. The only reason is I don't go offroad, but in New England can get dumped with the snow and these had been great. A co-worked and friend of mine w/ a Ranger said that he too would have used the 4WD, but tried the tires without, and was amazed at how good the traction is without being in 4 wheel drive. But, I think the mileage goes down a bit because of the more aggressive tread compared to more of a highway tire.

I say try the goodyear silent armours. I have a set on my jeep and they are great. They are way quieter then my mt/rs on my truck, but they are also an all season tire. With kevlar in them, and great traction, you cant go wrong! They also rate pretty good on tirerack.com.
BFG A/T's - best tires ive ever owned - and ive had 5 sets of 'em on two trucks (about 40+k a set)...NEVER HAD A PROBLEM - and theyve suffered TONS of abuse...
I have nothing but good to say about the Bridgestone Dueler Revo's. Traction and control is much improved over the factory Goodyear Wrangler RT/S. I only have about 9k miles on them, but they aren't showing any wear yet. Awesome tire in the mud and snow. I bought them last year at Costco for $675 complete, and they had a $75 mail in rebate. I believe they are now making them in 285/70/17, which I would have bought if they had them at the time.
