It should be a CAN-capable OBD-II . I've never heards of "DATS" before, so that's a new one....
All Fords from 2004-on (and a couple of heavy duty 2003 models) use this scan tool format. All US market vehicles are required to support this OBD-II interface in the next year or two.
A CAN-capable code reader (not a scan tool) is available at WalMart for about $65.
