My power steering has suddenly developed a failure at idle. I could normally move my wheels from side to side easily at idle when slowly parking my trailer, for example. Now its very stiff, like no PS boost, unless I bump up the rpm to maybe 1000 -1200 rpm. Fluid level is right up. There is a slight grinchy noise from the pump when I force it, particularly at the stops. doesn't sound like the belt slipping. Before I chase off to the dealer, is there any experience out there you can share? Might save me $100 deductible on the extended warranty.
Thanks,
Warren
Similar problem here. My steering is waaay harder than my dad's 02. I notice too that if I'm turning while going up a curb the wheel will momentarliy stop when the wheels hit the curb.
What's the low down on these pumps that are on ebay?????
Have same problem with my 2001, seems when i been running awhile it does it more but just when going slow (if i speed up the engine it steers easy), noticed when i had new tires put on it really helped alot with the steering, also noticed if i keep the tires hard in the front it steers much better at the slower speeds.
Maybe ya'll should flush the pumps with new fluid. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. I've flushed mine once at about 60k, but it was for whining not for hard steering.
