Greetings all! Just a quick question... On a 93 Ranger is the lower seal above the pitman arm a replaceable part on the power steering unit? If it is, any ideas where to get said seal? Thanks in advance
On an 88 Ranger 2.3, I was able to replace that while box stayed bolted to truck, but it MUST be super-clean throughout job. Of course, you can flush it afterwards. The job is no fun. Impact wrench would be nice. I got the rebuild kit at Advance Auto Parts.
Since I happened to already have my 94 loaded in, I ran a search on it (XLT, 2WD, 4 cyl, 14" wheels)
I'm not sure exactly what position your are referring to, but Advance Auto Parts has two "Steering Gear Pitman Shaft Seal Kits" which are $16.96 and $22.74. One of these is a little cheaper at Auto Zone.
This appears to be a rebuild kit, but the website did not guarantee that the picture matched the product...
Of course, these are the prices on their website, so the prices at the store will likely vary.
Remove pitman arm nut.. and use pitman arm puller to remove arm.
Place drain pan under gear box
Start engine.. stop engine.. do not turn steering wheel
Pull gear box seal parts out of drain pan... there will be a seal and a couple washers.
Install new seal and washers up into gear box, in the same order they came out (unfortunately at this point it all got blown around into the drain pan when the force of the P/S fluid blew it all down.. so a manual may help here)
