I have a 1981 F100 with the 302, I've got the belt off the smog pump, but I want to knowif I remove the whole thing hoses and pipe at the back of the intake will it hurt anything. Any help would be appreciated.
NO. Does your 302 have the metal pipes going into the heads at the rear? If so you need to plug them or easier yet is to buy a piece of 1/2" hyd hose and just hook them together. Just cut them off leaving enough room to put on the hose. What ever you do don't rehook up the smog pump.
Yeah, it's got the metal pipe going into the back, I was just thinking I would remove it and cut the hose in the middle and plug it. Also, I needed to know if would mess anything up. It's a daily driver and I need it to run so I can get to work, but as soon as the funds are available I'll be fixin that bad boy up.
you can also remove the pipe from the heads and plug the ports with a 5/8 -11 nc bolt about 3/4 of an inch long but you also have a pipe from the catilytic converter that wqill have to be plugged
The reason I'm removing the air pump because it's not doing anything. I took the belt off, my truck doesn't have a catalytic converter on it and I don't have to have emissions on it any more, so I would just rather have it off so I could get to other things easier.
