Hello and yes I searched the threads... I apologize but could not find much... I am flying to san jose from san diego to buy a 75' F150... then drive said truck back to S.D. on sunday or monday, great idea I know. Well the column shift is not working and I want to put in a hurst floor shifter. I have the indy 3 speed shifter on it's way and am looking for any advice and or pictures to help me. I need to perform a few things to get the truck ready to drive back. I will probably change the oil, trans fluid and may be gear oil in pumpkin. Any thing else I should be aware of? The transmision is functioning, but the linkage is shot and will only put the trans in 2nd.
Thanks in advance for any help and I really dig the sight so far.. cant wait to see the truck and I have too many plans already...
Just make sure you put the linkages on right side up or your shift pattern get confusing. And make sure you get the shift kit for trucks with the longer shifter so it fits over the bench seat. Awsome conversion. I loved mine and I'm sure you'll be happy too.
Thanks again , I finally got a hole cut in the floor and the shifter figured out. It seems to be working fine as of now. Once I got on the road the right front wheel is locking up when I apply the brakes hard, I am going to try and take a look on sunday, just take them apart and get a good look at them. The front pads seem to have meat left on them, but the calipers are old and rusty/dirty. I am hearing a scraping noise from somewere, I cant tell if it is front or back, maybe the rear drums are dragging, will the driveline/driveshaft make noise?
thanks and cheers
One thing I have done on my 74 with the floor shift conversion is to throw the little spring clips away to hold the linkage to the shift arms. A washer and cotter pin work much better, the little spring clips would always pop off at the worst time.
Yeah, as I was installing the shift kit the wierd spring clips/pins that came with the hurst kit were a pain. One of them bent up on me and did not instill a lot of confidence. I figured I would have to replace them at some point. I just want to figure out the brake issue and drive this thing home.... I am now in SAn FRansico and need to drive to SAn Diego... that should be fun at 65 MPH!!! I am used to driving an 83' GTI at over 90MPH to get home quickly! well I guess I will be more responsible now and enjoy the sights! HA! Thank you for the info and I am sure I will be on this sight quite a bit in the near future to figure other things out. I will try to post some pics of this beast I just picked up for a great price... the thing starts right up and runs very smoothly.... I just need to address the wiring and interior issues.. the turn signals do not work or the brake lights... I believe I will have to replace the turn sidnal mechanism in the column... and truble shoot some wiring.
OHH HELP!!! There does not seem to be a way to install the shift/steering lock out that came with the shift kit. Is it possible for the steering to lock up on me?
I just purchased the truck, but no the steering wheel was not locked , there does not seem to be a linkage between the ignition switch and the column, the switch is in the dash board, not up on the column. Does this make a difference?
Hi gentlemen, I recently purchased a 1969 Ford F-100 with column shift. I have read your posts, but would you mind sharing the part number of the shift kit you used to convert your 3-spd to a floor shift? That would make my day!!

The Indy shifter from Mr. Gasket I believe is the one that most of you experts are using. I am going to order that one. I haven't tried Advanced but I will now that you mention it Thanks for the help guys!
