Tow haul doesn't work

2003 6.0 auto. Awhile back the light stopped coming in but the function still worked. Now it doesn't work at all. Is there a relay in the system somewhere? Maybe bad switch? How do I get the switch out of the gear shift lever to chech it?

Most likely it's a broken wire in the shifter. The wires tend to break where they enter the shifter inside the steering column.

Remove the plastic cover from the steering column (there are three screws on the bottom) and you should see where the wires are broken.

I just went out and pulled it apart and you are exactly right. There is no way there is enough wire for a splice. Does that all come as one piece if I buy a new gearshift lever? Or is there another way to fix this?

What he said....mine did it also. Go to your dealer and order the part, it is the only way to fix these wires.

So it comes with the shift lever? What does it cost?

I just ordered the part from Ford. It comes with the lever, button and wires. $54 isn't bad but you would think that if this is so common, they would stock the part. Not one of the 4 dealers in town had it so it will be here Monday.

I don't think the wires are breaking, the shifter was manufactured with extreme prejudice....
