Maybe somebody out there can help my brother with his GMC- ( I couldn't stop him). It'a a 3500 and he tows a fifth wheel with it. These trucks only come with 3.73's! He put 19.5 commercial rims and tires ( from Rickson) and the truck looks and rides 100% better, BUT the speedometer is slow. If he can sneak 4.10 gears into it, the speedometer will be almost perfect.
Does anybody know a reliable shop to set up a rear end located on Long Island, prefferably Suffolk County? Thaks, guys
How did he make out I haven't heard anything bad about them so I guess that could be a good thing. Also i know they have been around a long time.
How was thei prices?
You might want to find a guy named "Gerry" from F&A Auto (Machine?) in Medford/Patchogue, if he's still there. If he won't do it, he'll tell you where to bring it and get it done right.
The Truck Shop is on Montauk Hwy (Rt27A) on the west end of town. Labor rate is $90 per hr. I'd advise to get a fixed price for work done as it doesn't look like they move too fast down there? They don't stock much buy you can order most small things for next day. Nice to see some other guys from Long Island here!
Hey I am from Long Island too! hahaha. I don't have much input as far as the gears go though, sorry. Is that place RSM still in business? I forget where it is, somewhere in Suffolk.
I'll be interested to hear how the work turns out and how the new gears affect the ride in terms of torque and fuel economy. My last SD had 4:10's and the smaller V-8 but seemed to have a bit more "umph" in the acceleration from a dead stand still than my present V10 - which in all honesty feels kind of sluggish even with the new dual exhausts. Hopefully the new gears will help.
We picked it up today. $2100+tax as quoted. He said it is completely silent. Performance is much improved, but remember, the gear change just compensated for those ittybitty tires GM likes to put on duallies, so it's stock again. The speedo is 2mph fast. Was 5% slow before. The shop is clean and nice. They are on Montauk Hwy (Rt27) in Sayville.
