i have a 86 f150 4wd with double shocks on eachside of the front end.how can i raise the front whith out spending a lot of $ on a lift kit? will new heavyduty springs stiffer than the ones on there lift it a few inches?thanks
You can put a 2" leveling kit in from most suppliers with camber bushings and 4 shocks for about $400 including shipping. Stock 2wd F250 springs will give the same lift, but you still need to correct camber with aftermarket bushings and the stock shocks will be at there max for on-road use. there is no cheap way to do it right with TTB.

Parts stores sell twist-in aluminum knuckles which will give you about 1" of lift.
They are sold in sets of 4 per package. They look like a stubby auger and are approx. 2" high when on their side.
Raise the truck by the crossmember until the wheels are just about off the ground (springs unloaded). Twist in the knuckles (spray them with wd-40 first) using a half inch drive rachet with an extension. Install them 180 degrees apart at the lowest part of the spring where they can be installed.
Once installed they can be aligned by tapping into position with a hammer.
I had an 83 Bronco with sagging front springs in front. Installed one set of spacers which raised it up to level height (did not screw up the alignment)
Before putting my snowplow on for snowstorms, I added another set of twist-in knuckles to the springs directly above the first set and removed the extra set when I took the plow back off.
I've had them in there for the 12 years I had the Bronco on the road and retired it to the backyard 4 years ago. Still sits level!
Good luck!

I went and picked up a set of air bags from Air Lift for around $70, I bought it more or less to stiffen up the suspension. it wont quite level out the rake in the truck but it helps. just thought i'd throw that out there for an idea!
