are they inflating the price just because of a stupid name on it? i find it hard to beleive it really costs as much as a new superduty to build.
with how much the car wieghs and the price, someone can take a car for half the price and mod it for cheap and will blow the doors off the shelby, but then again it won't have the cute little name on it.
Shelby GT500 would kill base Corvette on 1/4 mile.
1997-2004 Z06 (405 hp) was only by .5 sec faster than 2003-2004 SVT Cobra (390 hp). How can then 400 hp Corvette have same or similar time at 1/4 mile as 500 hp Mustang?
Did anyone look at what I posted earlier the GT500 when power shifted got a low 12, I never heard of a C6 doing that and the track kills im not sure about that Motor trend ran the GT500 around the track in 24.5 seconds, 2005 Corvette Z51 25.2, whos faster?

Now, my Rusky friend, you're catching on!!!!
CAR & DRIVER did a head to head test........they too were shocked that the 100 horsepower could not make up the OVER 600 POUND weight difference.
If you've been following this thread, I've already stated that the new Shelby 500 is turning in comparable times to the old Cobra in most tests (EXCEPT MM&FF)
So what Ford has graced us with is a car that costs aprox. $10,000 more than the car it replaces, weighs 300 pounds more and performs about the same.
Are you starting to see why Ford is in the position they're in????
I drooled at the thought of a 500HP Mustang........turns out 4000 pounds is a pig regardless of the HP.........unless BMW does it.
How does a GT500 kill a Base vette? the C6 ran 12.8 to the GT500 12.9 and the article said the vette ran faster on there last test. Here is your answer on how a 400hp car beats a 500hp car, power to weight and traction it's that simple.
Y is everyone throwing the MM&FF out the window? other mags besides C&D who are dick heads that hate ford got like 12.7 and 12.5 with traction control on for the 12.7 and 12.5 off, neither of the 2 powershifted, MM&FF got a 12.2 with trac control off and they powershifted, how is this so impossible?
Motor Trend - 4.5 - 12.7 sec @ 116 mph
Inside the Oval - 4.3-4.7 - 12.25 - 12.9 @ 113-117mph
Hot Rod - 5.1 spun bad - 12.8 @ 111
Car & Driver - 4.5 - 12.9 @ 112 mph
All these had trac control on and no powershifting, inside the oval has a range of times from other mags and what they heard, so I guess they just threw that figure in, lol.

We have guys running in the mid 12's with there Vettes everyday show room stock. The best time I have seen is 12.23 for the manual and 12.42 for the auto. Forget even thinking of comparing it to the Z06 with times in the in the low 11's. But even if you give the GT500 2-3 tenths in the qtr it will get killed in the first corner.
I had big hopes that the GT500 could compete against the Z06 but it is not even but it barely competes against the C6. In any most comparision I have seen the GT500 loses every time. The car is just to heavy, to tall and to square to really compete with the Vette. A picture is worth a thousand words. It may not be a GT500 but other than HP, brakes etc they are the same.
