The first one will go to the guy who bid over $1,000,000.00 for it at Barrett-Jackson this last Januay in Scottsdale AZ.
They look like real neat cars. The best of the old new school stuff. I owned a 1995 Mustang GT and it was fun but wheel base was too short, which the new Mustangs are longer. Which will make them hard to beat.

I believe it went for a measly $600K. I got to drive standard GT this past weekend, that's a lot of car for the money. My only complaints aren't really worth mentioning, especially given the price, and will likely vanish with the Shelby version.
Having test driven an '02 Z28 (for a buddy, I know better) earlier in the week definately didn't hurt its point status with me either. The Stang's a WAY better car from the moment you open the door to get in.

OK, here comes Donny Downer and one of the the reasons for Ford's pathetic slide;
The Shelby GT 500 is the GREATEST $35,000-$37,000 car in the history of mankind.
The only problem is that it's an overweight, fair performing $45,000 car (after the gas guzzler tax)
Ladies and Gentleman, $45K is firmly in C-6 Corvette territory for a car that is slower at the track despite having a 100HP advantage.
The Shelby is $10,000 more and has aproximately the same track times as the 390 horsepower car it replaces. (Mustang Cobra)
4000 pounds is ridiculous for a sports coupe.....500HP or not.
I want to love this car and after the inititial feeding frenzy I was seriously considering one............but I am now very unimpressed.
300 pound diet (100 of that would be just an aluminum block) and an MSRP of UNDER 40K (as promised) and Ford would regain a lot of credibility.
(Donny Downer has left the room)

No, you're right on all counts. I think most everything is (drastically) overweight these days though (save for the Ariel atom and maybe an Elise).
The Stang does a very good job of hiding it though, but I must admit I didn't exactly get to drive it as I would have liked to (knowing the owner, it will never be driven that way). At the limit I'm sure the pork shows up. I felt it had more than enough get-up, not so much to keep me from possibly getting used to it, but enough to have fun with for sure.
Just that Shelby name writen on it has to be worth, what $5K?
Like I said, A LOT of car for the money. Gotta keep people safe...
I'll have to see if i can slip into the seat of a C-6, haven't had the pleasure yet. Really frustrating, I did have a job that allowed me to test drive pretty much every sports car out from Miatas to Astom Martins. Job of my dreams, except the boss man couldn't keep "clean".
Edit. by tdister: that last sentence was maybe a bit much for the audience as it was.

MM&FF in there september issue i think got a best qrt of like 12.23 something like that, even though its heavy it scoots really good and throw C&D in the garbage they only got a best of like 12.9 and the c6 got like a 12.8, alluminum block be great in the GT500 that would drop the weight, If I had it my way Id put in a whippled alluiminum 5.4 into the GT500 have it be all carbon fiber like the Z06 and have it be 65k, then call it GT500KR. It prob have over 600hp and prob weigh 2700 lbs. That be great the Z06 weighs around 2500 lbs or less with 505 hp.

My comments were based on the Shelby GT500...........sorry about that.
I rented a Hertz GT350 in Phoenix a few weeks ago.............it was cool. Defineitly needed a manual trans. (looks like the "civilian" model will have a stick)
I have NEVER driven a car that garnered so much attention!!!
People were craning their necks to look and strangers were axing questions about it in parking lots.
$89 a day + $35 insurance was fine...........$35K??? I'll pass.

And as much as I absolutely adore the 'vette, remember that some of the people buying these still want to be able to put their families in them on occasion (I'm talking regular 'stang to 'vette, not downright performance talk).
Sure the 'vette will spank the 'stang with any engine it's coming with, but the 'stang still has the advantage of being a full people mover as opposed to two seats in the 'vette.

Good point..........our Cobra was the "family" car until the kid hit about 13..LOL!!
But my main gripe with Shelby 500 is they priced it in Vette territory... which just begs for the comparisons.
