06 "hidden tach" ?

Do these trucks have the onboard diagnostics using the odometer display like my 2000 model had?

I think it was turn key to run position, hold in the reset on odometer, wait until it said "test" and then start truck. You could then scroll through a bunch of data including a tach...

I guess I could just run out and try it... Just thought someone else might know already. Thanks,

Rich

yes, these trucks do have the onboard system you are referring to. I dont remember the exact way to get into it, but what you have posted up there sounds about right.

Turn the key to on, push and hold the "reset" button and start your truck, then release the button. The display will cycle thru some different displays as you press the reset. It should display the hex serial number of the PCM first. I think the next one is gauge swing or LED segment test, the tach is the thrid or fourth one (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). You can keep cycling thru the display with the button.

It will stay this way until you turn off the truck. Some of the displayed info is in hex and does not mean much unless you can de-code it.

Try doing a search on the diagnostic display, it should turn up some info. This was discussed a couple of months ago.

Good luck!

No, there's no way to keep it displaying the tach mode. You have to do the hold the reset button deal every time you start your truck.

Cool, I just want to see the tach so I can log the rpms when a harmonic noise occurs at exactly 80MPH in my truck. The dealer said there is nothing wrong. That noise has to be something. Maybe the 4X4 vacuum TSB I was reading about yesterday...
