Spare Tire
I got a 78 f150 longbed 4x4. I never carried a spare tire and didn't have any of the components to change a tire in the event of a flat. I wisened up and got a jack assembly out of a junk ford truck (yes I tested it to make sure it worked and would reach the axle on my truck). I have a spare tire but the only place I have to put it is in the bed. I use my bed alot and really don't want it in there. I know they had an in-bed mounting assembly but I have a bedliner so that won't work. Did they make an under the tank rear mount? I have a rear mounted tank. I don't go offroading so I won't mind that location but I do have a trailer hitch there and I think my dual exhaust setup would be in the way. Any other ideas?

I carry mine loose, and when it gets in the way, and not going that far, it gets left behind. You can load up your box, and put on top, or stand it up while putting your load in the box, either way it can be dealt with. The hitch won't be in the way as much as the dual exhaust will be.It usually mounted under the rear tank, butif you do a lot of offroading, I wouldn't really want it there, and if you are running oversize tires, makes it even worse. You could maybe make a bar to go across the very front of your bed, and make a fixture to hold it there, that would keep it mostly out of the way... It all depends on what compromises you are willing to make, and how much space you really need in the box.

I haven't seen people do this for a while but it used to be poplular to put it on the front of your truck in front of the grill.
I have the exact same delema and the only other solution I came up with is to mount it on the top of the cab. I am going to build a rack that will hold my 35" tire, bumper jack, a shovel and maybe a tool box.
