Ah...problem...need help (stain).

Ok so there is this part of a handprint on my hood. It's in black stuff of some sort...I assume grease. And it's not coming off.

Tried glass and surface cleaner figuring it'd come right off. No dice.

Tried the watered down simple green (what you're supposed to do), nothing.

Tried full strength simple green, nada. Don't even notice a difference.

I'm afraid "Goop Off" will take the paint off. Any suggestions?

But otherwise great news, it got a whole additon of new scratches and dings from the school parking lot, it's just GREAT to be back!

Pilot, Hand cleaner is a degreaser which is what you need. I do not think it would take your paint off. Remember I said "do not think". If the grease mark soaked into the paint, then your paint days were nembered anyway. I would try a hand cleaner. I know I have taken gasoline and lightly taken off spray paint and it did not bother the clear coat or color any. If the black hand print is grease and dirt, it should come off. Let us know and good luck!!

As long as you don't soak goof off too long you should be okay. Mineral spirits should take it off, or paint thinner, but that is real harsh on the paint and if left on too long or too much pressure is applied WILL remove your paint...

My Dad accidentally discovered years ago that liquid NuFinish car wax was a surprisingly effective degreaser. He knocked a bottle over in the back of his van one day. The spill wound up on an old automatic tranny fluid stain on a beige carpet. When he wiped it up, the stain was gone.

Have you ever seen your Dad have a "Eureka!" moment? Without a word he looked at the newly clean carpet spot and immediately squirted the rest of the stain and it came right out. I've used NuFinish to pull stains from my gray carpet. I would caution that it seems to lighten (bleach) the carpet's color (or it really cleaned it back to factory original.

However - you do have to put up with the smell of the car wax for a week or two.

Anyway, it might be worth seeing whether it will do the same for your tough grease stains on paint. I'd make sure to wash and wax it afterward just to be sure everything is even.

Whatever you use, be careful, it's clearcoat and very thin. Depending on the chemical, it may have stained the clear. jd

I can't remember what it's called, something similar to mineral spirits, basically its what you use to clean the paint before detailing the paint. Darn Darn Darn, I can't think of the name, not paint thinner.... my mind is going, but it is 7 in the morning...

WD-40 works good for removing grease.

We use a product called Acry-solv on the cars in our shop, paint usually just needs a bit of polish after to bring back the luster.

You can probably get it at a body supply shop or if you know a body shop they might give you some.

I like wd-40 or charcoal lighter fluid for taking grease off. Both of those chemicals are also great for removing tar from rocker panels.

No dice. I noticed in closer inspection it's a blue black as well. If that makes any sort of difference.
