I have an '83 single cab short box with a wierd color scheme. The hood is red and there is a red stripe down each side from just below the marker up front to the tail light. There is also another stripe that seperates from the first stripe, goes above the marker, follows the other line back to the rear of the side window and then turns skyward, ending at the top of the door. The rest of the truck is black. At first I thought that it was just a red hood added on to a black truck with red stripes but I have seen another one like it. My brother suggested that perhaps there was something special about it. I can't find anything, maybe you guys can shed some light on it? Any help would be much appreciated
The '81 Ranger looks very similar. The stripes on mine are just a little higher, with the bottom one following the body line that is set in and the top following the curve of the fender and meeting the door about an inch south of the window. I'll try to get some pics up within the week to aleviate some of the confusion due to my descriptions haha.
Haha, it turns out I do have a pic on my computer after all. It's a little dark but you can kind of see the stripe that goes up the cab. Ill try to lighten it up later.
Maybe A Dealer thing? I remember back when I lived near DC in the mid 80's, a few dealers had a special edition f 150 for the Washington Redskins. It was burgandy with a gold stripe similar to yours and had John Riggins signature in the stripe.
The hood does look replaced, as well as the "air dam deflector" just under the grille and over and behind the front bumper.
The 1981 has a simular accent stripe, as pictured earlier in the brochure under the Ranger trim package option, and it could have been revamped a bit for later models etc..
